Lyn Whitham, B.A. B.Ed. M.S.

Lyn Whitham is an advisor to the Oakes Group.

Lyn Whitham is a management and communications consultant. For the past ten years, she has been the Principal at Whitham & Associates providing service to clients primarily in the health care and research sectors. She specializes in strategic communications counselling, tactical execution and speech-writing support to CEOs. Lyn is a professor of marketing and communication in the Centre for Business at George Brown College and the Story Arts Centre at Centennial College.

Previously, Lyn was an executive in both for-profit and non-profit sectors. Notably, she led an international brand project at Foresters; with her team, implemented a global sponsorship strategy at Zurich Financial Services Canada; and as the Vice President Communications led the H1N1 pandemic response at Toronto’s Mount Sinai Hospital. Recently, at MaRS, she led an earned media brand strategy for Grand Challenges Canada working in partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. She received two coveted IABC Awards for her work. 

Lyn started her career as a reporter and anchor for CBC News. She was Queen’s Park Bureau Chief, a reporter for The National and a documentary reporter for the Journal. While at the CBC, she and her crew were honoured to receive several awards including the Michener Award for Public Service Journalism, a Gemini nomination and the Centre for Best Investigative Reporting Award.

Lyn holds a Master’s of Science in Management and Communication from Syracuse University, a Bachelor of Arts (History) and Bachelor of Education from Queen’s University.
